Through The Psychiatrists’ Program®, PRMS® has served the professional liability insurance needs of tens of thousands of psychiatrists for over 35 years. The decades spent specializing in psychiatric risk management have given us unparalleled knowledge and a deep-rooted understanding of the issues faced by psychiatrists. This experience forms the basis of our risk management services and allows us to help psychiatrists improve patient safety thereby minimizing professional liability.

Donna Vanderpool, MBA, JD

Vice President, Risk Management

Donna Vanderpool is responsible for the development and implementation of risk management services for PRMS®. Ms. Vanderpool has developed expertise in the areas of telepsychiatry, HIPAA and forensic practice, and has consulted, written and spoken nationally on these and other healthcare law and risk management topics. She most recently contributed to a chapter in Gun Violence and Mental Health (APPI), authored chapters on telepsychiatry in Mental Health Practice in a Digital World (Springer) and Psychoanalysis Online 2 (Karnac). She also has co-edited and contributed chapters to several other clinical textbooks. Prior to joining PRMS in 2000, Ms. Vanderpool practiced criminal defense law, taught business and legal courses, and spent eight years managing a general surgical practice. Ms. Vanderpool received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management from James Madison University. She also earned a Master of Business Administration degree and Juris Doctor degree from George Mason University. Linked In

Charles David Cash, JD, LLM, ARM

Assistant Vice President, Risk Management

Charles David Cash joined PRMS® in 2001 after serving as an assistant public defender for several years in the Mental Health Division of Maryland's Public Defender Office. He provided trial consultation and representation in cases involving significant mental health issues and represented clients in civil commitment proceedings. Mr. Cash also worked as a paramedic on the critical care transportation team of a major hospital. Mr. Cash has been responsible for educating professionals on a variety of mental healthcare topics, including training defense attorneys to represent developmentally disabled clients. As PRMS Assistant Vice President, Risk Management, Mr. Cash supports psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals in their professional liability risk reduction efforts. He provides advice to clients through the Risk Management Consultation Service. Mr. Cash speaks nationally on risk management and insurance topics and coordinates educational presentations. Mr. Cash received his Bachelor of Science degree in Emergency Health Services Management from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, a Juris Doctor degree from Quinnipiac College School of Law, and a Master of Laws in Health Law degree from DePaul University School of Law. Justin A. Pope, JD

Associate Risk Manager

Justin Pope joined PRMS® in 2014. Mr. Pope is responsible for researching emerging legal issues, creating online risk management content, and providing advice to individual providers through the Risk Management Consultation Service. As a law student, he focused primarily on international, administrative, and food law. During his final year at Howard, Mr. Pope gained additional insight into the FDA’s regulatory process while serving as a research assistant to his professor. He has also interned as a legal assistant for both the Ft. Monroe Garrison Office of the Staff Judge Advocate and the Office of the Naval Inspector General, opining on a variety of legal issues, including privacy law. Mr. Pope received his Bachelor of Arts degree in International Affairs from the University of Virginia and his Juris Doctor degree from the Howard University School of Law. Justin Pope on LinkedIn

 

Ann McNary, JD

Senior Risk Manager (Retired)

Ann McNary joined PRMS® in 2009. As Senior Risk Manager, Ms. McNary educates psychiatrists, psychiatry residents, and other mental health professionals on liability risks and how to mitigate their exposure. Ms. McNary is the editor of Rx for Risk and writes and speaks nationally on various risk management and insurance topics. She provides advice to clients through our Risk Management Consultation Service. Following four years in private practice, Ms. McNary served eight years as in-house counsel at Kansas Medical Mutual Insurance Company (KaMMCO) working in both the claims and risk management departments. While at KaMMCO, she also served as an adjunct instructor to Kansas University School of Medicine-Wichita where she provided risk management education to medical students and residents. She later served as Vice President, Risk Management for NCRIC, Inc., a Washington D.C. based medical professional liability insurance carrier. She has written and lectured extensively on various healthcare law and risk management topics. Ms. McNary received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Kansas and her Juris Doctor degree from the Washburn University School of Law. Ann retired from PRMS in 2023.
