New York Psychiatrists: Physicians who participate in the Excess Program and/or want the 5% premium discount must complete a risk management course approved by the New York Insurance Department. The CME courses without a “NY Excess” in their title are not approved by the New York Insurance Department. You may still take unapproved courses for CME credit.

A note regarding these telepsychiatry courses: the newer course, Emerging from the Mayhem, contains the most up-to-date information but focuses on prescribing and licensure. Managing the Mayhem covers eight considerations for a low-risk telepsychiatry practice. We suggest completing both courses, Managing, for its coverage of the basic eight considerations, then Emerging, to gain appreciation for the latest changes in telepsychiatry practice.

ATTENTION NEW YORK PSYCHIATRISTS: The NY Excess Follow-up Course planned for Spring 2025 and designated for the upcoming policy year 2025-2026 has now been posted.

If you were taking, but had not completed, the prior Follow-up Course, you can access the prior course here. It will be available until April 13, 2026.

  The 42 CFR Part 2 regulations prohibit, absent a patient’s valid written consent, the disclosure and use of patient information that would identify a patient as an alcohol or drug abuser. PRMS has authored a resource to guide psychiatrists in complying with these regulations.
